Stand-Up, Message

Growing up in Los Angeles and the third
of seven children, Kathy was always the peacemaker in the family.
No matter what was happening, she could turn any situation into
a humorous one.
Kathy's stand-up routine continues to demonstrate
how she handles some pretty awkward situations with a comical
point of view. By taking difficult
experiences, as well as everyday life situations, and showing them
in a positive light, Kathy brings a unique and totally therapeutic brand of comedy.
Kathy works clubs and colleges all over the country as well as
performing for many civic groups, churches, corporations and conventions.
She has been seen on television programs that include an ABC World News Tonight segment featuring
young comedians, on The Apollo Comedy Hour at the
legendary Apollo Theatre, on BET's Comic View and on many talk
shows. She was also featured on ABC's Good Morning America as
she used her humor to provide comic relief after the September
11th tragedy. Kathy was also the Grand Prize Winner on America's Funniest
People.

"Growing
up, I was not raised in a church. When I did go, I attended whatever
storefront church was in our neighborhood. This was the time my
parents got a break from their seven kids. I can truly say that
adversity is what brought me to the Lord. My life had become so
insane that I eventually and gladly surrendered it to Him.
"I always believed in God and thought that if I just did good
that I'd go to Heaven. It wasn't until 1987 when I was going through
one of the dark periods of my life that I began a personal relationship
with Him, and learned the only way to have eternal life is by
grace through faith in Jesus Christ (Eph 2:8-9). Shortly thereafter,
I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and was baptized.
I eventually wandered back into the world, but in my heart I knew
there was something missing.
"In 2001, while going through a divorce, I had this yearning and
began going to church again. I had placed my four year-old in
a Christian preschool. I selected the school because we had to
leave our existing one unexpectedly, and this one was close to
our home. However, God had other plans for me. When it came time
to do my son's homework, I realized just how little I knew about
the Bible. I had to go out and buy a children's version in order
to help him with his homework. One day in his homework, the question,
'What do you do for Jesus that he loves?' was asked. My son answered,
'I hug him.' I said, 'Okay, let's write that down.' The next question
asked, 'What does Jesus do for you that you love?' He spoke right
up and said, 'He hugs me.' All of a sudden my eight year-old says,
'Jesus hasn't hugged you.' My four year-old stopped and thought
for a second and said, 'He will when He comes back.' I realized
then that my four year-old son knew as much, if not more, than
I did. I felt as though he was teaching me when I should have
been teaching him.
"September 11th came shortly after that conversation. During this
time I was a flight attendant on a major airline that lost two
planes in the tragedy, so it really hit home. I began questioning
my morality and my purpose in life. I had been moonlighting with
stand-up comedy for years and prayed for a way to share my humor,
yet share His word. Shortly thereafter, I stepped out in faith,
leaving my flight attendant position after 24 years. I was now
a single mom, with two children in private school, a huge mortgage
and no savings. Every month I prayed, paid my tithes and watched
as He made ends meet. God is good! Learning about Outreach Comedy
soon afterwards feels like a blessing.
"Still young in my walk with the Lord, I pray everyday for knowledge
and direction. 'Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God:
thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of righteousness' (Ps.
143:10)."

"Your
comedy act was just what we needed. It is so very hard to laugh
in this day and time, and in the Church; but you were so tasteful
in your delivery that we have received only compliments on how
nice it felt to be able to laugh about everyday occurrences."
- Laverne / Edsel,
Second African Methodist Episcopal Church
"We were thoroughly entertained
by your very, very funny stand-up routine. We can see why you
are becoming so well known on the comic circuit as one who is
able to share the joy of laughter with all who hear you."
- Shirley,
Friends of Family Life
"I want to take
this opportunity to thank you for helping make our "Comedy Night" an OUTSTANDING success!!! I have received nothing but positive
feedback from several of the students and committee members
that attended the show. I would also like to compliment you
on your professional attitude and the appropriateness of your
stage act. It is not often that what you see on video is what
you get in person. I'm always skeptical when booking upcoming
acts, but was very pleased with what I received. Your performance
set the tone for a successful year of comedy on campus."
